Zomato founder, Deepinder Goyal recently in an interview talked about the mindset between a 10-minute delivery and a 30-minute delivery. This discussion was done regarding the growth of Blinkit, an instant delivery service app. Blinkit was acquired by Zomato on July 27, 2022, in an all-stock deal worth INR 4,447 crore. Presently, Zomato is the parent company of Blinkit.
Blinkit caters to the instant needs of its customers. Nowadays you can find almost anything you want on Blinkit and can get it delivered to your house within 8 to 10 minutes. In the interview, he mentioned that if the growth that Blinkit is showing right now stays on the same track then Blinkit can be bigger than Zomato in a matter of a few months.
How fast has Blinkit been growing?
Even though Blinkit is not available everywhere, the growth it has shown is tremendous. Blinkit has been successful in creating a loyal customer base and is far ahead of its competitors. Blinkit, when launched, was a new concept and as mentioned in the interview as well, it wasn’t clear initially how many people would want a 10-minute delivery. But after it launched it was clear that there were a lot of customers who wanted instant delivery. Since then Blinkit has become a substantial part of the lives of people who have used it.
This growth can be tracked in the numbers as well. Deepinder Goyal in the interview revealed Blinkit is about 40 to 50% of the size of Zomato right now. In a few cities, it might be even bigger than that. Not only that but it is also growing 3 to 4 times faster than Zomato. Deepinder believes that it’s a matter of several months before Blinkit becomes bigger than Zomato.
Blinkit in the market
Blinkit right now is at the top in quick commerce business in India. Not only is it at the top but also it is far ahead of its competitors. Blinkit held a 45% share of the quick commerce market in Q3, followed by Swiggy’s Instamart with 27%, Zepto with 21%, and Bigbasket-owned BB Now with 7%.
Every customer of Blinkit would agree that Blinkit has impeccable service and branding. This consumer satisfaction is reflected in Blinkit’s growth rate, market share, and revenue.
