Anupam Mittal Reveals His Investment Portfolio, Claims He Doesn’t Invests in Public Market

Anupam Mittal is one of the well-known investors in our country. He might have gained fame from Shark Tank India but he has been an angel investor to hundreds of startups even before that. Anupam Mittal, CEO and founder of shadi.com, recently in an interview with Sharan Hegde, disclosed his investment portfolio and revealed that he has invested in over 300 companies but still has never invested in the stock market.

Why not the stock market for Anupam Mittal? And if not the stock market then where?

In the interview, when asked about his investment portfolio, He disclosed that he does not invest in public companies. His Portfolio has 40% of his own company which is shaadi.com, 40% of startups, and the rest of the 20% in real estate. This further sparked the conversation about how he sees real estate as an investment venture. His real estate investment consists of real estate he has received in inheritance and what he has purchased for office and residences. He comments he believes real estate is a bit of a fool’s investment as in real estate either the yield is low or the maintenance is too high. He comments that you invest in real estate only when you are expecting capital appreciation, which depends a lot on luck.

As for his views on the stock market, he disclosed that he had recently started investing in SIP when his daughter was born. However, he prefers investing in startup companies.

Further, the conversation moves don’t to mutual funds, and are not patient enough and so financially insecure that they don’t let their fund be invested for a long time. The flexibility that the mutual funds and the SIPs allow you to have is helping you in making rash decisions about your investment. Both Anupam and the host commented that this might seem like a good option in the short term but these are the investments that need to be invested in for the long term.
