In this episode, Nikhil opened about the reason he dropped out of college.

Why Did Nikhil Kamath Dropped Out Of College?

During a talk about the streets where Nikhil grew up, Meghana asks him about his early dropout from school.

Nikhil said that no one knew about his decision. He revealed meeting a friend named Tej Pal Jain from a business family in the textile industry, with whom he shared a desire to make money quickly. They both get into selling cell phones, despite Tej’s initial limited involvement. Starting with a phone that he got in 8th or 9th grade, Nikhil sold it, earned money, and continued the cycle of selling phones, as second-hand products near Jain College to kids in the area.

This became a semi-job from which he was earning reasonable money, and at one point, had an inventory of 10-12 phones. Nikhil managed all of this from home, unbeknownst to his parents.

Despite dropping out of school after class 10th and lacking any formal degree, Nikhil is the founder of Zerodha, India’s leading stock brokerage firm, and has a net worth of 310 crores USD as of 2024.
